President Obama just announced that keeping your “non-grandfathered” health plan into 2014 may be an option. Here is the press release from BCBS of NC published earlier today:
BCBSNC to File Plans with NCDOI that Would Allow Customers to Renew Existing Health Coverage
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) announced today that it will file plans with the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) to allow most of its non-grandfathered individual customers to keep their current health plan for another year if they choose. “We were in discussions with the Department of Insurance about this option even before the President’s announcement on November 14,” said Brad Wilson, President and CEO of BCBSNC. “We understand that many of our customers are frustrated and confused by difficulties accessing the federal exchange, and we want to do everything we can to help them maintainquality health coverage that they can afford.” The NC Department of Insurance will be responsible for reviewing and approving rates for these renewed plans. Renewing 2013 plans will delay some of the more challenging consumer impacts of the ACA for another year; however non-grandfathered customers will need to move to ACAcompliant plans for 2015. “There are still important details to work through, and both our company and the Department of Insurance have committed to work as quickly as possible,” Wilson said. “We expect to be able to provide more details about customers’ renewal options on or around December 1.”
